Red Bud Wins 2nd Game in Two Days

Red Bud took on East Alton Wood-River on Wednesday, February 9th. 

The Musketeer’s first points of the game came 3 minutes into the game when Max Diewald hit a three on the wing assisted by Devin Hall. Diewald then went on to hit another three on the following possession. Red Bud kept trading buckets with Wood-River throughout the entire quarter. With 3 minutes to go in the quarter, Trent Sternberg drove to the rack for a pair, keeping the Musketeers within 6. Easton Lucht added his name to the stat book as he grabbed a board and put it back up for 2, late in the first quarter. The Musketeers were down 17-10 at the end of the 1st quarter. 

Red Bud started the 2nd quarter with a defensive stop, as Logan Cathell swatted his defender’s shot. A couple of possessions later, Max Diewald hit a three from the top of the key. The Musketeers were getting stops throughout the entirety of the quarter. Midway through, Cathell got an offensive board and put back to bring Red Bud within two points. A few possessions after that, Devin Hall connected on a bucket in the paint, assisted by Cathell. This was the Musketeer’s first lead of the game. Red Bud ended the half on Devin Hall’s 1 for 2 trip to the line and a defensive stop.

The Musketeers started the second half with a stop. This led to Cathell’s and 1 bucket on a drive to the rack. A few possessions later, Cathell made a tough circus shot, assisted by Nick Fehr. Following that, Max Diewald hit a three at the top of the key, assisted by Fehr. Red Bud’s offense was in a nice flow, as they got their third bucket in 4 possessions, coming from Hall’s shit in the paint assisted by Cathell. The Musketeers got a stop to end the quarter. Red Bud was down 39-38 to end the third quarter.

Trent Sternberg gave Red Bud their first points of the quarter, from a three on the wing. Sternberg also gave the Musketeers their second made shot of the quarter, getting the ball back from his own shot and putting it up for a pair. The Musketeers kept trading buckets with the Oilers the whole quarter. Midway through, Diewald drove to the rim for a tough 2. Right after that, Sternberg took the ball away from his defender and went to the rack for a pair. Red Bud seemed to be perfecting their offense, as Cathell also drove to the rim for an and 1 opportunity. This gave the Musketeers their largest lead of the night 50-43. Red Bud battled back and forth with the Oilers, trading shots every possession. The Musketeers headed to the charity stripe multiple times throughout the last 2 minutes of the game. Maintaining to knock them down and keep a comfortable lead. Cathell secured the game with his 3 for 4 trip to the line. Red Bud beat East Alton Wood-River 57-54.
