Musketeers Win At Wesclin

Red Bud continued their domination of the gridiron Friday with a 49-0 blow-out over the Wesclin Warriors in Trenton. The Musketeers scored early and often in the game beginning with a 4-yard TD pass from senior quarterback Thomas Friess to wide-out Sam Easter. Lane Brockmeyer, who was 5 out of 7 in PAT kicks, was good for the 7-0 early lead. The Warriors took the kick-off after the Red Bud score and set up near their own 30 when Musketeer cornerback Chase Lucht intercepted a Warrior’s pass and turned it into a pick-six to make the score 14-0. Still, in the first quarter, all-purpose back Nick Gantner caught a pass and took it 22 yards for the Musketeers’ third TD making the score 21-0 at the end of the first frame.

The Musketeers elected to work on the ground game, feeding the ball to sophomore Lucas Schwartzkopf who broke free for a 45-yard TD dash. An errant snap on the extra point turned into a two-point conversion when quick-thinking holder Chase Lucht picked up the ball and found Devin Hall in the endzone. The score at the half was Red Bud 29, Wesclin 0.

The Musketeers extended the lead 42-0 in the third quarter on a pair of 3-yard touchdown runs by Schwartzkopf and a PAT kick by Brockmeyer. Lucas finished the game with 3 TDs, 104 yards total offense, an interception, and 5 tackles. The success would not be possible without the outstanding play of the Red Bud offensive line: Noah Tepe, Tyrus Carter, Nolan Krack, Dylan Minemann, and Kyle Loughner. The blocking and pass protection provided by this unsung group makes it possible for the offense to function and control the game.

Red Bud scored their final touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 43-yard run by Gavin Baldwin to make the final score 49-0. It was the team’s fourth win in a row making their record 6-1 for the season; 4-0 in conference play. The Boys travel to Chester this week to take on the Yellow Jackets.
