Boy’s Golf Week 3
The Red Bud Musketeers Boys Golf Team kicked off their third week of competitive play with a quad match against Freeburg, Breese Central, and Wesclin on Monday, August 29th. Freeburg hosted the match at their home course in Belleville at the St Clair Country Club. Ryker Papenberg had the lowest score for the team with a 44. Will Simpson followed behind Papenberg with a 46. Owen Stallings came in third for the team shooting a 47 and Cash Langrehr shot a 49. The boys placed 4th out of four teams shooting 186.
The teams’ next match was another quad-match against Chester, Okawville, and New Athens on Tuesday, August 30th at the Chester Country Club. The top scorer for the team was Papenberg with a 40. Papenberg chipped in on the par four hole six for a birdie. The second score for the team was Langrehr who shot a 46. In his first varsity match, freshman Kruz Koester fired a score of 48. Simpson came in fourth for the team, shooting a 51. The Musketeers placed third out of the four teams. The boys picked up a win against New Athens and two losses to Okawville and Chester. Musketeers shot 185, New Athens 187, Chester 163, and Okawville 159.
On Thursday, August 1st, the Boys headed to Chester to play in the Chester Invitational Tournament at the Chester Country Club. The top scorer for the team was Papenberg who shot 86 with one birdie. Second, for the team was Langrehr who shot 88 with one birdie. Stallings came in third for the team with an 89 and Simpson with a 91. The Musketeers shot a team score of 354 which placed them fifth out of nine teams. The Musketeers beat Zeigler-Royalton, New Athens, Murphysboro, and Marissa.. The very competitive Steeleville Warriors once again won the tournament with a score of 305.
The Boy’s team has officially reached the halfway point of their season. The next week includes away matches against Wesclin on Tuesday and Okawville on Wednesday.
