The Red Bud Musketeers Boys Golf Team played several competitive matches of golf this past week.  On Monday, August 22nd, Red Bud got their first win of the season against Valmeyer at the North County Country Club. The lowest score for the team was Ryker Papenberg who medaled with a 37 and scored the best round of his career.  Papenberg birdied 2 holes and chipped in on the par five hole five to save his par. Owen Stallings shot a 44, Gentry Donjon a 47, and Jaden Kadlec a 51. The Musketeers beat Valmeyer by a score of 178-258.

The second match of the week was against the Sparta Bulldogs on Wednesday, August 24th at North County Country Club. Papenberg was the top varsity scorer for the team, shooting a 42. Stallings took the second spot by shooting a 44, with a birdie on the par three hole six. The third top score for the team was from Simpson who shot a 46. Finishing out the top scores for varsity was Kadlec with a 48. The Musketeers lost another close match to the Bulldogs by a score of 180-178.

Finishing out the long home stretch, the Musketeers faced the Trico Pioneers on Thursday, August 25th at North County Country Club. Papenberg was the low scorer for the team, shooting a 40 with a birdie on the par four-hole two. Cash Langrehr and Simpson both tied for the second spot with a pair of 46s. Stallings came in fourth for the team, shooting a 47 with a birdie on the par four hole two. The Boys ended up losing a very close match to the Pioneers by a score of 179-172.

To end the week, the Musketeers traveled to Okawville to play in the Okawville Invitational Tournament on Friday, August 26th at Roland Barkau Memorial Golf Course. Papenberg came in firing with an 80, just missing the top ten by one stroke. Stallings shot another solid score with a 88. Langrehr shot 94 and Simpson 96. The Musketeers placed ninth out of fourteen teams that competed in the tournament with a final score of 358.  The very competitive team from Steeleville took home first place while Parker Renken from Nashville shot 6 under par for the top scorer of the tournament.  

The Boy’s schedule for this week includes away matches against Breese Central, Freeburg, and Wesclin at the St Clair Country Club in Belleville on Monday, Chester on Tuesday, and the Chester Invitational Tournament on Thursday.
