2022 Senior Night

Senior night against New Athens started with some really exciting energy on the court.  At the beginning of the night, the team honored seniors Chloe Wild, Sam Kolweier, Madison Pensoneau, and Hannah Sievers, all of whom have all played RBHS basketball for four years.  Energy and excitement were running through the gym to help lead the Musketeers to victory.  While they did not score a ton in the first quarter, Red Bud had all the momentum. Throughout the first, the Musketeers put in eight points. Hannah Sievers and Alexis Koester each had two points from two-pointers. Sam Kolweier contributed the other four with a two-pointer and made both her free throws. The Musketeer defense was pretty good, only letting up three points in the whole first quarter. By the end of the quarter, Red Bud was up five in an 8-3 game.

The second quarter was extremely similar. Red Bud again scored eight and only allowed New Athens to score two this quarter. Sievers and Koester both had two more points from field goals. Addi Dilley scored the other four from two-pointers. As they headed into the locker room for halftime, Red Bud was winning 16-5.

The second half is where the Musketeers took off. In the third quarter, they scored seventeen points. Sievers and Dilley each had two from field goals and Hess had two from making both of her free throws. Koester had three points from dropping in a three-pointer. The other eight points were made by Kolweier as she hit two threes and a two-pointer. This was the Musketeers’ worst defensive quarter, but they still held New Athens to seven points. The score walking into the fourth quarter was 33-12.

Red Bud had their best quarter in the fourth. They added eighteen points to their score and did not let New Athens score any at all. Josie Meyer, Claire Diewald, and Koester each had two points from two-pointers. These were Claire Diewald’s first varsity points. Chloe Wild scored three from a two-point shot and hit one of her three shots from the foul line. Madison Pensoneau also had three points, but hers were from a three-pointer. The other six points came from Sievers and they were mostly second-chance points. At the end of the night, Red Bud came out with a strong win against New Athens with a score of 51-12.
