The Musketeers traveled to Roxana last week to take on the Shells in a non-conference matchup in week two of the young season. The game began with Roxana jumping out to an early lead on a 16-yard touchdown pass at the 6:14 mark in the first quarter. The PAT put the Shells up 7-0. Red Bud set up their offense after receiving the ensuing kick-off but was unable to get things rolling and was forced to punt. Roxana put together a drive that culminated with a 2-yard touchdown run with about two and a half minutes to play in the first quarter. The point after was good and the Boys were down 14-0.

The Musketeers put together a drive in the second quarter that was capped by a 5-yard TD run by Nick Gantner. Red Bud’s two-point conversion failed which made the score 14-6. Roxana answered with a drive of their own that netted six points on a 6-yard touchdown run, The PAT made it 21-6 at the half.

The Musketeer defense made some adjustments during the halftime break that worked to slow the Shell’s offense. Roxana was able to grind their way to the endzone late in the third quarter, scoring on a 15-yard TD run to take a 28-6 lead. Red Bud answered with their second score of the game when quarterback Easton Lucht found Sam Easter for a 3-yard TD pass for six. Lucht and Easter connected again on the two-point conversion to make the score 28-13 just after the start of the fourth frame. The Shells extended their lead to 35-13 with a 35-yard TD run at 6:06 in the fourth. Never giving up, the Musketeers’ Devon Hall scored on a 19-yard pass from Lucht. The two-point conversion failed and the game ended with a final score of 35-20. The loss evens the Musketeers’ record to 1-1.
