Red Bud will return to the Gridiron this week in a bit of a different way. “Covid has definitely thrown us for a loop this year. I never would have imagined spring football at the high school level but here we are. We have had some of the best weather to practice in temperature-wise and the kids seem genuinely excited to play” stated Musketeers’ Head Coach David Lucht when asked if the team is ready for the upcoming season.

The season will consist of 6 games with Columbia being our first opponent. “Although there won’t be play-offs this year our goal is to play the same caliber of football that a play-off qualifier would warrant.” When asked what difficulties the change has caused, Lucht stated “Probably the hardest part thus far has been managing the basketball players to get their required practices in. [This] week looks to be the first time we will all be together practicing as a team.”

Here is what to expect on the Offense. “We are looking for Bryce Amann to lead our line including newcomer Gavin McDill, Ian Stafford, Mason Ferrell, and Hunter Sauer. The receiving core will be led by Parker Van Dorn with Kobe Brosch and Caleb Barriger. First-year players Max Simpson, Wyatt Cowell, Logan Cathell, and Kendall Doiron will be battling for some receiving opportunities. In the backfield, Frank Ford will handle a bulk of the carries with help from Devin Hall and Nick Gantner. At quarterback, Easton Lucht will be the starter.”

“Flip most of these guys around on the defensive side of the ball and you have our core players. We look very stout and great on paper. With some very good athletes with great  attitudes and ability our expectations are very high.” Any concerns about the season you ask?   “My main concern is conditioning and overall depth but overall we should be fun to watch. We have a lot of good players this year but our depth could be an issue” Lucht replied.

The Boys travel to Columbia Friday night for the 7:00 kick-off. The team is allowed only enough tickets for parents and family due to crowd size restrictions. Watch your email for notifications for a link to the live video feed and updates from the game.
