Turnover Nightmare During Rogers’ Coaching Debut

After almost a full year since their last contest, the RBHS women’s basketball team kicked into action on Tuesday night. With new coach Eli Rogers steering the ship, Red Bud would look for its first win against Rogers’s former program, the Waterloo Bulldogs. Red Bud began the game with turnovers on back to back possessions, and the trouble did not stop there. Waterloo would go on a 10 to 1 point run to begin the game, Red Bud’s 1 point coming to senior guard Olivia Carle. Waterloo continued to dominate on the offensive side of the floor, relentlessly crashing the boards on their own misses. Freshman guard Olivia Collson contributed to Waterloo’s offensive effort by sinking a buzzer-beater 3 to end the first quarter. Red Bud’s offense continued to struggle in the second quarter, with the team only converting on 3 first half Field Goals. The Musketeers shot exceptionally well from the free-throw line in the first half, with Junior forward Hannah Sievers going 4/4 from the stripe. The Bulldog offense continued to be too much for Red Bud, as they took a 29-14 lead going into the half. Bulldog sophomore Sam Lindhorst shined on the court for Waterloo to start the third. Lindhorst put a crossover move on the Red Bud defender and drove to a quick paint score to stretch their lead to 19 early in the quarter. Shortly after, Lindhorst had Musketeer junior Sam Kolweier on her toes with a quick cross and capped it off with a long stepback 2 point field goal. Red Bud’s ball-handling woes continued all night long, clocking in at over 20 team turnovers by the time the game was through. The Musketeers would go on to lose this sloppy first game of the season by a score of 25-50. On a more positive note, the Lady Musketeers do have a lot of promise this upcoming season. Starting Forward, Chloe Wild, put up an impressive 9 rebounds, 5 of which on offense. Creating more offensive opportunities is going to be crucial if Red Bud is going to see success this year. Although an opening night loss is always disappointing, there is no quit in these Musketeers for the upcoming season
