Dupo, Illinois, was recently in the news for a large disaster affecting many of the town’s patrons. On September 10 at 12:45 p.m., at least 12 train cars were derailed from the tracks of Dupo Union Pacific Railroad Co. on Main Street. The derailment caused large fires and heavy smoke which could be seen from miles away. All schools in Dupo were reportedly evacuated to Columbia High school at 1:45 p.m. Ameren Illinois stated at 3:00 p.m. that nearly 400 people were out of power due to the disaster.
