On Tuesday the 27th of August, our FFA chapter went to the Farm Progress Show in Decatur, IL. Fourteen members of our chapter went to the show to see the new agriculture technology that was being released in the upcoming years. During the show we saw a lot of new planters that minimize soil compaction and don’t waste any seeds. There was also a lot of giveaways at the farm show. Some people signed up to get a free truck. Pioneer also had a hat vending machine that let you choose the specific hat you wanted and they were all for free if you planted pioneer seed or if you posted a picture on Instagram. 

There was a lot of new equipment that was getting shown off there, like a 400 hp front wheel assist tractor and a new planter that had air bags to eliminate soil compaction.  There were also a lot of new businesses that are coming out with new planters and tillage tools, and new grain carts that hold 2,000 bushels and they have tracks to eliminate soil compaction.  Case IH is also coming out with a new monitor that is getting rid of the old technology and making the new one more user friendly and completely touch screen. Due to the wet conditions in the fields, however, there weren’t any field demonstrations to see how the machines work in the fields.  This was kind of a let down because people like to see how things work in the field. We all learned a lot about the future of agriculture and we all had fun meeting new people and seeing new equipment.
