Musketeers Fall Behind After a Wet Week

After the game being rained out multiple times earlier in the season, Red Bud finally was able to face off against Dupo on Monday. The team sent Caleb Langrehr to the mound where he went seven innings giving up 5 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned, and 5 strikeouts. The Tigers scored one run in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Red Bud could not answer until the third inning when an RBI from Parker Van Dorn. Langrehr kept Dupo’s offense subdued as the Musketeer’s bats were held in check and struggled to score until the top of the seventh when Gage Baldwin batted in Austin Melliere to break the 1-1 tie. The Tiger’s rallied after a walk and an error to score two runs and win on a walk-off single. The final score was 3-2.

Red Bud looked to bounce back from the disappointing loss Tuesday at Roxana. Parker Van Dorn got the start. Van Dorn made quick work of the Shell’s offense in the first inning before running into trouble in the second inning. Roxana was able to score eight runs in the inning after Red Bud was unable to end the inning on six different opportunities. With an 8-0 score after the second inning, Van Dorn went back out for his last inning of the day. Nathan Thies would come in for the fourth inning as Red Bud’s offensive woes continued. Thies would not allow the Shells to score as Roxana defeated Red Bud 8-0.

Senior night was played on Friday against Dupo. Tyler Koester went to the mound where he went 6 ⅔ innings with 3 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 4 strikeouts, and 3 walks. Each team scored in the first inning and took a 1-1 tie into the third inning where the Musketeers added a run with a RBI single from Cole Steibel. With Koester keeping the Tigers off the board, Red Bud was able to maintain the 2-1 lead into the sixth where the team added three insurance runs. Gage Baldwin and Cole Steibel each had RBIs to help Red Bud take a 5-1 lead into the seventh inning. Koester then gave up three runs to the Tigers allowing them to bring the score to 5-4. With baserunners threatening, Cole Steibel came in to record the final out and preserve the win on senior night.

Looking to get in playoff form the team went to New Athens Monday night. The team pitched by committee with Alex Kueker on the mound first. Kueker allowed one run through three innings. As the offense was slow to get rolling, Caleb Langrehr took the mound and gave up three runs over three innings. New Athens held a 4-0 lead heading into the sixth inning before the Musketeer’s got on the board. With Cole Steibel on third base, Gage Baldwin hit a sacrifice fly to right field allowing Steibel to score. The Yellow Jackets held onto the lead through the seventh to take the 4-1 victory.
