Lady Musketeers Finish Season

This last week of the season, the Lady Musketeers had some very tough games. On January 28, the ladies had their senior night vs New Athens. In the first quarter the Lady Musketeers totalled 5 points. Claire Grohmann and Sami Lucht each contributed 2 points. Hannah Sievers was fouled and she went one for two from the free throw line. At the end of the quarter the Lady Musketeers were down 5-10.

Red Bud came out very strong in the second quarter scoring 12 points on their opponent. Lucht contributed four points consisting of two free throws and one, two-pointer. Hope Guebert sank one, three-pointer. Alyssa Heller and Grohmann tallied up two points each. Amber Stengel was fouled and she went one for two from the free throw line. The score was 17-19 going into halftime. The Lady Musketeers were down by 2.

The team came out strong in the second half of the game scoring 9 points. Stengel made a three-pointer. Grohmann, Heller, and Sievers also contributed two points each in the third quarter. At the end of the quarter the score was 26-29, the Musketeers were down by 3.

In the final quarter of the game the Lady Musketeers added another 11 points to their score. Guebert sank another three-pointer. Grohmann, Stengel, Sievers, and Makayla Whelan each tallied up two points for the quarter as well. The ladies played a hard fought game, but it was not quite enough. They fell the New Athens Lady Jackets 37-40.

On February 1, the Lady Musketeers traveled to Marissa to play against the Lady Meteors. In the first quarter of play the team scored a total of 8 points. Guebert and Stengel both sank one three-pointer each. Makayla Whelan was fouled and she went two for two from the free throw line. At the end of the first quarter the Lady Musketeers were down by one. The score was 8-9.

The second quarter was rough for the team as they only scored 2 points. Lexi Amann scored the two points for the team. Going into halftime the score was 10-22, the Lady Musketeers were trailing.

The Lady Musketeers came out very strong in the second half scoring 14 points in the third quarter. Guebert tallied up 5 points for the quarter which consisted of a three-pointer and a two-pointer. Grohmann totalled 4 points. Lucht made one, two-pointer. She was also fouled and went one for two from the free throw line. Olivia Carle also scored two points. At the end of the third quarter the score was 24-31, the Lady Meteors were on top.

In the fourth quarter the ladies added another 12 points to their score. Guebert sank two, three-pointers. Lucht tallied 4 points consisting of one, two-pointer and two free throws. Sievers had two points in this quarter as well. The final score of the game was 36-43. The Lady Musketeers lost another hard fought game.

On Monday February 4, the Lady Musketeers traveled to Trico for Regionals. The ladies faced off against the Sparta Lady Bulldogs in the first round. During the first quarter the ladies scored 8 points. Stengel sank one, three-pointer. Guebert and Lucht each totaled two points for the quarter. Amann was fouled and she went one for two from the free throw line. At the end of the first quarter the score was 8-7, the Lady Musketeers were winning by one.

In the second quarter the Lady Musketeers came out very strong scoring 15 points. Makayla Whelan totalled 5 points for the quarter. Carle was fouled multiple times and she went four for six from the free throw line. Guebert sank one, three-pointer. Sievers tallied up two points. Grohmann was also fouled and she went one for two from the free throw line. Going into halftime the score was tied 23-23.

The ladies came out strong yet again in the third quarter scoring 13 points. Grohmann totaled 4 points for the quarter. Guebert sank another three-pointer. Amann, Sievers, and Heller each tallied up two points each as well. At the end of the third quarter the score was 36-35, the Lady Musketeers were up by one yet again.

In the fourth quarter of the game the ladies scored 8 points. Grohmann totaled another 4 points. Lucht was fouled and went two for two from the free throw line. Kassidy Ellner and Sievers were also fouled and both went one for two from the free throw line. The score was tied at the end of the fourth quarter, 44-44.

In overtime the Lady Musketeers fought hard and put up another 7 points. Grohmann yet again tallied up 4 points in overtime. Sievers was fouled and she went two for two from the free throw line. Lucht was also fouled, but she went one for two from the free throw line. At the end of overtime the final score was 51-52, the Sparta Lady Bulldogs pulled through with the win which ended the Lady Musketeers season.

The team would like to thank all of their supporters throughout the year! Also good luck to our two seniors, Alyssa and Hope, as they plan to attend college in the Fall of 2019. Congratulations on a hard fought season ladies!
