Lady Musketeers Season Underway

The Lady Musketeers were very busy this past week. They faced three very good teams. They played Waterloo, Lebanon, and Freeburg.

The Musketeers faced the Lady Bulldogs, on the road, on November 27. The team knew they were going to have to fight very hard. In the first quarter Hope Guebert scored a total of five points. She scored one, two-pointer and one, three-pointer. Claire Grohmann put in two, two-pointers. At the end of the first quarter the score was 9-7, the Lady Musketeers were on top.

In the second quarter the ladies came out very timid only putting up two points. Amber Stengel was fouled and went two for two from the free throw line. The score was 11-16, the Lady Bulldogs were on top, going into halftime.

The Lady Musketeers knew they were going to have to fight back in the second half of the game to have a chance. The Musketeers added six points to the scoreboard in the third quarter. Grohmann put in one, two-pointer. Guebert and Alyssa Heller were both fouled and each went two for two from the free throw line. The score at the end of the third quarter was 17-26, the Bulldogs had the lead.

The fourth quarter proved to be the Lady Musketeer’s quarter once again. The team added 16 points to their side of the scoreboard. Makayla Whelan and Lexi Amann each made two, two-pointers. Sami Lucht made one, two-pointer and also went two for two from the free throw line. Guebert and Grohmann scored one, two-pointer each. The final score of the game was very close. Unfortunately the Lady Musketeers fell 33-34 to the Lady Bulldogs.

On November 30, the Lady Musketeers had their home opener against the Lebanon Lady Greyhounds. In the first quarter the Lady Musketeers scored seven total points. Grohmann made two, two-pointer and went one for two from the free throw line. Guebert also made one, two-pointer. The score at the end of the first quarter was 7-12, Lebanon was on top.

In the second quarter, the Lady Musketeers added six points to the scoreboard. Grohmann, Lucht, and Amann each scored one, two-pointer. This left the score at 13-20 going into halftime.

The Lady Musketeers proved to be a second half team once again outscoring Lebanon in the third quarter. The ladies added another eight points to the scoreboard. Megan Stellhorn scored two, two-pointers. Guebert and Stengel each made two, two-pointers. The score at the end of the third quarter was 21-25.

In the fourth quarter the Musketeers added five points to the scoreboard. Heller was able to make one, three-pointer and Amann put in one, two-pointer. This was not enough to put the Musketeers on top. The ladies lost 26-39 against the Lady Greyhounds.

On December 1, the Lady Musketeers faced the Freeburg Lady Midgets. The ladies knew that this was going to be a tough game. In the first quarter the ladies were able to add seven points to start off the game. Reese Foster made one, three-pointer. Stengel and Heller made one, two-pointer each. The score at the end of the first quarter was 7-18.

In the second quarter, the ladies added another seven points to their score. Stellhorn made two, two-pointers. Hannah Sievers put in one, two-pointer. Grohmann was fouled and went one for two from the free throw line. The score going into halftime was 14-34.

In the third quarter, the Musketeers only added three points to the scoreboard. Heller made one, two-pointer and Olivia Carle was fouled and went one for two from the free throw line. The score at the end of the third quarter was 17-42, the Midgets were on top.

In the final quarter of the game, the Lady Musketeers added eight points to the score. Lucht made one, two-pointer and went one for two from the free throw line. Carle and Sievers made one, two-pointer each. Megan Henry was fouled and went one for two from the free throw line. The final score for the game was 25-57, the Lady Midgets had taken the win.

The Lady Musketeers had another home game on Wednesday, December 5th against the Gibault Lady Hawks. The Ladies will travel to Dupo this Saturday. JV starts at 11am and Varsity will start right after them. Come on out and Cheer on your Lady Musketeers!
