Veteran’s Day Donations

With Veterans’ Day coming up so soon, several groups have wanted to do something for the occasion. One of these groups is the High School’s NHS. They are planning a donation of items to the Fisher House in St. Louis. They are collecting items that the house has listed on their website. Their wish list includes cleaning items, food, and gift cards. A full list is available at the end of this article. Items will be collected at the banks, schools, and churches of the area. Look in your local church or bank for their collection boxes.

The National Honor Society will also be setting up a “Hat Day” for monetary donations. The group had an idea to shake up the donations. Instead of having only one day for collection, they will have a “Hat Week.” Where students can pay a bit more to wear a hat for the whole week! To wear it the full week of the 5th, the student will need a donation of at least $5. The teachers will also be allowed to join in with the festivities. There will also be an opportunity for the teachers to donate at least $10 and be allowed to wear jeans for the entire week!

All of the items and money collected will be donated to the Fisher House. The Fisher House Foundation is a network of comfort homes where military & veterans families stay free of charge to be close to their loved one that is in the hospital. They have helped more than 300,000 families since its inception. They house around 1000 families every day. The Fisher House Foundation also runs the Hero Miles Program which donates frequent flyer miles to military and veteran families.

The National Honor Society and the Social Studies Department of the High School will be hosting a presentation on 12th of November. They will be recognizing the branches of the military and presenting a few things to honor the veterans of our community.
