Lady Musketeers are successful in conference play

On Monday, April 16, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers traveled to Belleville West to compete against the Lady Maroons. Red Bud watched the game slip away early and could not recover. The Musketeers struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Belleville West. The Maroons fired up the offense in the first inning when a solo homer was hit to right field. The Lady Maroons added another two runs to their score in the second inning and one run in the third. In the top of the fifth inning, the Musketeers got on the board. Darrian Stapleton tripled on a fly ball to center field. MaKenzie Harbaugh scored Stapleton on a hard ground ball hit to the shortstop. Mackenzie Schweizer doubled on a line drive to left field and drove in another run for the Musketeers. The Maroons responded by scoring another five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Belleville West increased their lead by one run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Although the Musketeers scored two runs in the seventh inning, it was not enough. Red Bud took the loss against Belleville West with a final score of 10-4. Laura Juelfs and Schweizer 2/2; Sophia Koesterer 1/1; Madison Shields 2/3; Harbaugh 2/4; Stapleton and Callie Todaro 1/3; Juelfs, Schweizer, Shields, and Todaro each contributed with one walk. Schweizer pitched 4.1 innings allowing ten hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Koesterer pitched 1.2 innings allowing three hits and no walks with three strikeouts. On Tuesday, April 17, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers hosted the Marissa Lady Meteors. Marissa got things moving in the second inning and scored one run on a line drive double to left field. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Musketeers tied the game up. Schweizer was walked and scored on Nicole Allen’s fly ball double to left field. The game was tied at one after the seventh, sending the game into extra innings. The score was still tied with Red Bud batting in the bottom of the eighth inning. The bases were loaded when Allen singled, scoring one run to clinch the victory. The Red Bud Lady Musketeers captured the conference win against the Marissa Lady Meteors with a final score of 2-1. Juelfs 3/3; Shields 1/1; Allen 2/4; Schweizer 1/2; Stapleton 1/3; Koesterer 1/4; Juelfs, Schweizer, and Todaro each contributed with one walk. Koesterer pitched the game allowing two hits and four walks with eleven strikeouts. On Wednesday, April 18, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers took on the Columbia Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles captured the lead in the first inning by scoring one run on a double hit to left field. In the second inning, the Musketeers took the lead. Todaro singled on a hard ground ball and Cowell followed with a home run hit to left field, scoring two runs for the Musketeers. Columbia stole the lead back from Red Bud in the bottom half of the inning by putting two runs on the board. The Musketeers tied the game up in the top of the third at three. Harbaugh doubled and scored on Juelfs’ hard ground ball single. The Lady Eagles scored one run in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead once again, and they scored another three runs in the fourth. The Musketeers drove in one run in the fifth, however, the Eagles responded with one as well in the bottom half of the inning. In the seventh inning, Harbaugh led off with a home run hit to left field, increasing Red Bud’s score by one run. Unfortunately, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers were unable to add to their score anymore and fell to the Columbia Lady Eagles with a final score of 8-5. Todaro 2/3; Harbaugh and Juelfs 2/4; Cowell 1/3; Koesterer 1/4; Stapleton contributed with one walk. Schweizer pitched 4.0 innings allowing ten hits and no walks with four strikeouts. Emma Siegfried pitched 2.0 innings allowing two hits and no walks. On Thursday, April 19, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers hosted the Steeleville Lady Warriors. The Lady Warriors got things started in the third inning, scoring four runs. The Lady Musketeers nabbed the lead late in the game. In the fifth inning, Red Bud finally got on the board by scoring six runs. The inning started off with back-to-back line drive singles to left field from Harbaugh and Juelfs. Koesterer singled on a fly ball hit to right field, advancing the runners as well. Schweizer drove in two runs for the Musketeers on a hard ground ball single to left field. Allen then singled on a hard ground ball single to center field, scoring Koesterer. Cowell’s single to left field drove in another run and tied the game up at four. Stapleton then singled on a line drive to center field, driving in two runs to take the lead. In the sixth inning, the Musketeers increased their lead by one run. Red Bud held onto their lead in the seventh and secured the conference win with a final score of 7-4. Todaro 2/3; Allen and Schweizer 2/4; Cowell and Juelfs 1/2; Koesterer and Stapleton 1/3; Harbaugh 1/4; Juelfs contributed with two walks as well. Koesterer pitched the game allowing nine hits and two walks with fifteen strikeouts. Red Bud is scheduled to travel to Valmeyer on Tuesday, April 24; travel to Roxana on Wednesday, April 25; and travel to Dupo on Thursday, April 26.
