Florida Panther Adoption

An ordinary school Biology presentation on endangered species turned into a much larger learning experience thanks to two of Mrs. Lewis’ Biology students.  Mackenzie Hahn and Alexcis Crafton went above and beyond just presenting on the endangered Florida panther, but actually raised money to benefit Defenders of Wildlife.  This organization works to educate landowners to coexist with the panthers, promote wildlife crossings on roads, and protect and restore the Florida panther habitat.  Mackenzie and Alexcis created handouts for all of Mrs. Lewis’ Biology students, spoke to the class, and passed around a container each day for donations.  After a week or two, they raised $50, which was the highest adoption level offered.  With that level of giving, the class received a certificate of adoption and a small stuffed panther.  Mrs. Lewis was very proud of Mackenzie and Alexcis for going above and beyond the required project, showing initiative, and making a difference in the lives of the endangered Florida panthers.
