The Musketeers continued their winning ways last week shutting down Cahokia Conference rivals Wesclin at home in Red Bud. Both teams entered the game with a 4-2 record but Red Bud had the advantage with their 4-0 conference record. The game began with the Musketeers winning the coin toss and electing to receive; good choice. Red Bud return man Gavin Baldwin fielded the ball on the fly, broke a couple of tackles, and weaved his way down the sideline 96 yards for a touchdown. The PAT by Lane Brockmeyer split the uprights and the Boys were out to a 7-0 lead just seconds into the game. Red Bud kicked to the Warriors and the defense took over. The Musketeers have been downright stingy on defense allowing only two touchdowns in their last three games. The pattern continued to work as the Warriors were unable to put together any rhythm on offense all game. The Wesclin defense held Red Bud in check throughout the rest of the first quarter which ended with a score of 7-0. Red Bud put up two scores late in the second quarter to expand their lead to 21-0 at the half. The first came on a 31-yard pass from Dylan Oliver to receiver Lucas Schwartzkopf. Later in the quarter, Musketeer defensive lineman Wyatt Hamilton recovered a Warrior fumble that the Red Bud offense turned into six points on a 2-yard TD run by Schwartzkopf. Lucas finished the night with 28 yards rushing, 31 yards receiving, two touchdowns, and seven tackles.
The third quarter turned out to be a battle of the defenses, each team holding their opponent scoreless. The Musketeers iced the win on a five yard touchdown run by Chase Lucht in the fourth quarter. Lucht ran for 66 yards, caught one pass for 21 yards, scored once and had 5 tackles. Wide receiver Sam Easter had three catches for 30 yards, and notched 3 tackles. Senior Tyrus Carter led the defense with 9 tackles and 4 assists.

It is also Senior Night. Senior athletes and their parents will be recognized in a ceremony prior to the game. You should arrive by 6:30 for the pregame ceremony, kick off will be at 7:00.
