On Thursday, May 11, 2023, Red Bud High School’s Girls’ track team participated in IHSA Class 1A Girls Track Sectional held in Chester, Illinois. There were 21 teams including Breese (Mater Dei), Carlyle, Centralia (Christ Our Rock Lutheran), Chester, Cobden, Dupo, East St. Louis (SIUE Charter), Edwardsville (Metro-East Lutheran), Gibault Catholic, Glen Carbon (Father McGivney), Lebanon, Madison, Maryville (M. Christian), Nashville, New Athens, O’Fallon (First Baptist Academy), Okawville, Red Bud, Sparta, Steeleville, and Wesclin. With the nice weather, the girls were able to place tenth overall with 24 points. Tess Simpson placed second in the 400m dash, qualifying for state, with a personal record time of 1:04.39. Simpson will compete in the 400m dash at state on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Eastern Illinois University. Jeda Friess placed fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 1:06.53 and also placed fourth in the 100m hurdles with a personal record time of 17.95 seconds. Friess also jumped a personal record jump of 2.00m in the pole vault. Aubrey Piel placed fourth in the 800m dash with a time of 2:43.36. Anna Wolter placed fifth in the 3200m with a time of 14:33.43. Marta Gonzalez ran a personal record time of 15.02 seconds in the 100m dash and also threw a personal record throw of 6.13m in the shot put. Addi Tallman threw a personal record throw of 22.78m in the discus.
