Lady Musketeers Head to Regionals
The Musketeers had a small but mighty week playing only 3 games but clinching the title of Conference Champions. They faced off against Freeburg on Monday night, dropping that game 16-3. Jayna Bast had 2 hits that game, along with Lyla Hess and Allie Zipfel each having 1 hit. Zipfel also scored the team’s 3 runs with a 3-run homerun. Moving on to face Chester at home on senior night, the Musketeers were able to win themselves a conference title. The bats started off strong with Bast hitting a triple and Hess right behind her with an in-the-park homerun. Ava Wagner and Zipfel contributed with multiple hits each. Olivia Geralds led the team defensively, walking no one and striking out 7. The team then finished off the week in New Athens, sweeping them 12-0. Geralds led again on the mound throwing a complete shutout while her teammates helped to rattle the bats. Hess went 4 for 4 at the plate, while Zipfel, Crewe Wagner, Ava Wagner, Alexis Koester, and Lydia Koesterer contributed by racking up a couple more hits for the team. The Musketeers finish off their season going 8-2 in the conference; they begin postseason play next week, facing off against Nashville at home for the first game of regionals.
