On Thursday, April 6, 2023, Red Bud High School’s boys and girls track team participated in the Chester High School Freshman and Sophomore Invite meet in Chester, Illinois. There were four teams consisting of Chester, Gibault, New Athens, and Red Bud. Despite the cold weather conditions, the girl’s team placed second overall with 109 points, and the boy’s team placed third overall with 80 points. Gavin Baldwin placed first in the 100m dash with a time of 11.5 seconds, and first in the 200m dash with a time of 23.9 seconds. He also placed first in the high jump with a personal record jump of 1.52m, and first in the long jump with a personal record jump of 5.23m. Jeda Friess placed first in the 400m dash with a time of 1:08.8, first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 19.6 seconds, and second in the 300m hurdles with a personal record time of 1:06.0. Addi Tallman placed first in the 200m dash with a personal record time of 32.5 seconds, first in the shot put with a throw of 7.67m, and fifth place in the discus with a personal record throw of 18.60m. Luke Miller placed first in the 3200m with a time of 12:08.2, second in the 1600m with a time of 5:43.1, and second in the 800m with a personal record time of 2:26.7. Addyson Piel placed first in the 1600m with a personal record time of 6:49.9 and third in the 800m with a time of 3:06.0. Tess Simpson tied for first in the high jump with a jump of 1.22m, she placed second in the long jump with a personal record jump of 4.10m, and second in the 400m dash with a time of 1:10.6. The girls 4x400m relay placed first with a time of 5:08.7. Annabeth Ohlau placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 20.12m. Madelynn Mohr placed fourth in the 800m with a time of 3:11.9. Zach Grohmann placed third in the shot put with a personal record throw of 6.26m and fourth in the 100m dash with a personal record time of 13.0 seconds. Grohmann also ran a personal record in the 200m dash with a time of 32.2 seconds.
