Cardinal’s Young Star Shines in Spring Training
You must be living under a rock if you’re not only a Cardinals fan, but an MLB fan in general and haven’t heard the name of outfielder/3rd baseman Jordan Walker. The #1 ranked prospect in the Cardinal’s farm system has been on fire this Spring Training. Walker, ranked 4th in the MLB’s top 100 prospect list at the moment, is currently hitting .429 with 3 home runs and 7 RBIs through 28 at bats (for stat nerds: he has a 1.286 OPS as well). He has been highly touted in the minor league world ever since he was taken with the 21st pick in the 2020 draft by the Cards and has drawn multiple comparisons to last year’s AL MVP, Aaron Judge. There isn’t much room to debate these comparisons after recent reports have suggested that Walker has grown from an already impressive and powerful 6’5 220 frame to an astounding 6’6 250lbs in the past year. Many argue that Walker would be slotted even higher in the league’s prospect rankings if it weren’t for him losing A-Ball games due to the pandemic but one thing is for certain. If Walker maintains this through-the-roof production, it will be impossible for Oli Marmol to keep the 20-year-old phenom off of the opening-day roster.
