Musketeers Beat Dupo
The Red Bud Musketeers improved to 5-1 with a dominating win over conference rival Dupo Friday night. The Boys got off to a quick start scoring two TDs in the first quarter; here’s how it happened. The first score came on a 37-yard pass play from quarterback Thomas Friess to senior Devin Hall just over three minutes into the contest. The PAT kick failed but Red Bud was up 6-0. The second score came on a 12-yard run by Nick Gantner for the TD. This time Lane Brockmeyer’s kick split the uprights making it 13-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Musketeers did not let up during the second quarter, scoring a third time on a 7-yard TD run by Gantner. Brockmeyer’s PAT made it 20-0. Still, in the second quarter, Jarrelle Nesbitt took it in from the one for the fourth TD of the half extending the lead to 27-0 and the rout was on.
Red Bud scored a fifth touchdown when Gantner notched a “hat trick” scoring his third of the game and making it 34-0. Gantner rushed for 112 yards, caught a pass for 53 more, returned a punt for 29 yards, and had 8 tackles and an assist on the evening; quite a game. Junior Trace Wagner scored the final touchdown of the night on a four-yard run. Wagner finished the night with 53 yards rushing and 6 tackles. Final score Red Bud 40, Dupo 0.
The Musketeers were able to rest some players during the second half and get some game time to others while preserving their second consecutive shut-out. Defensively, Red Bud had interceptions by Sam Easter, Owen Liefer, and Chase Lucht. Alex Wolter recovered a Tiger fumble; Lucas Schwartzkopf and Nesbitt each had a sac.
The Musketeers travel to Wesclin this week to battle the Warriors. Wesclin won last week at Sparta and is trying for two in a row. Red Bud comes into the game with a 3 game-winning streak, you won’t want to miss this one. Make the trip to Trenton and support your team. Kick-off is at 7:00.
