Musketeers Lose To Breese Central

The Red Bud Varsity football team had their first road game last week traveling to Breese to face the Central Cougars. It was a great night for football and Red Bud had a large fan section thanks to the parents that made the trip and a loaded Student Fan bus. The game began well enough with the Musketeers scoring first on a 15-yard touchdown pass by Adyen Shemwell to Lucas Schwarzkopf with 4:03 left to play in the first quarter. Lane Brockmeyer’s PAT attempt failed so Red Bud took a 6-0 lead. Central tied the game on a 3-yard TD run and took the lead with the extra point making it 7-6 at the end of the first quarter. The Cougars added a safety in the second quarter when the Musketeers were forced to punt from their end zone and the snap from center sailed over punter Lane Brockmeyer’s head making the score 9-6 at the half.

Things really didn’t improve for Red Bud in the second half. Breese added another 2 points on a safety due to another bad snap on a punt in the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 11-6. The Cougars put the game out of reach with a 4-yard TD run with just over 2 minutes remaining to make the final score 17-6. It was a tough loss for the Boys but may be a wake-up call as they travel to Carlyle this week to battle the Indians. Both teams are 2-1, Carlyle is coming off a big win last week at Oblong, IL. Make the return trip to the Breese area this week to support your team. Kick-off is at 7:00.
