Musketeers End The Season With A Loss To The Oilers

Red Bud closed out the 2021 Fall Football season last week with a 21-38 loss to the EAWR Oilers in Wood River. The game began with Wood River returning the opening kick-off 82-yards for a touchdown to take an early 6-0 lead. From there the game settled down as both teams’ defenses held their opponents scoreless throughout the remainder of the first quarter.

The Musketeers took the lead on the first play of the second quarter when Devin Hall scored on a 10-yard run; Brockmeyer’s PAT was good making the score 7-6. The lead was short-lived as Wood River quickly answered back with a drive that culminated with a 2-yard TD run to go ahead 12-7. The Musketeers responded with a 48-yard TD pass to Evan Dressel and PAT to regain the lead 14-12. Still, in the second quarter, the Oilers added another TD on a 6-yard pass to go on top 18-14 at the half.

Wood River extended the lead in the second half with a 40-yard TD pass to make the third-quarter score 24-14. Red Bud staged a comeback in the fourth quarter when Chase Lucht scored early in the frame; the PAT brought the Musketeers within three points of the Oilers at 24-21. Wood River fought back by scoring a TD on a 1-yard run and a two-point conversion, going up 31-21. The Oilers iced the game on a pick-6 with under three minutes remaining to make the final score 38-21.

It was a season of ups and downs this time around with some exciting football played throughout the year. The team finished with a 4-5 record and battled injuries and COVID most of the season. Red Bud will have a good crop of experienced starters returning next year. Thanks for supporting the Musketeers.
