Yellow Jackets Top Musketeers
The Musketeers fell to Chester Friday night at home in a conference game that may determine Red Bud’s playoff fate this season. The loss drops the Musketeers season record to 4-4; 3-1 in the conference while The Yellow Jackets are 6-2; 4-0 in conference play.
Although it was a convincing win for Chester, the game was much closer than the score appears. The Yellow Jackets were led by strong running by their feature back who proved difficult for the Musketeer tacklers to handle. The Red Bud offense never did find a rhythm, registering just 136 yards total offense in the 21-0 shut-out loss. Easton Lucht was the Musketeers’ leading rusher with 32 yards on 10 carries. Junior Devin Hall rushed for 20 yards and caught 3 passes for 27 additional yards.
Nick Gantner led the defense with 9 tackles followed by Hall and Logan Cathel with 7 each; Cathel also had an interception. The Musketeers finished their regular season on the road in Wood River this week. The Oilers are 2-6 notching their second win last week against Roxana. There is a slim chance for the Musketeers to make the playoffs but must win this week to keep that chance alive. It should be a good game in EAWR. Make the trip north to support your team. Kick-off is at 7:00.
