Musketeer Football Week
Last week’s Red Bud varsity game against the Tigers was canceled due to a COVID outbreak at Dupo. The Musketeers were credited with a 2-0 win but the team would rather have played the game to prove they could have earned the win. The result is Red Bud is now 3-3 overall this season. The team is 2-1 in the conference, tied for 2nd with Wesclin in the conference behind Chester who is 3-0 in conference play. The Wesclin Warriors come to Red Bud this week to try to spoil the Musketeers’ Homecoming. It should be a good match-up and a game The Boys need to win to solidify their playoff chances. The game starts at 7:00 with Homecoming festivities and Homecoming Court introductions at halftime.
The Fresh/Soph team continued to roll in Murfreesboro last Saturday in a rare morning contest. The Musketeers scored in the first quarter on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Oliver to fellow freshman Lucas Schwartzkopf. Lane Brockmeyer split the uprights for the PAT to make the score 7-0. The Red Devils came back with a touchdown in the second quarter but were unable to make good on the point after TD attempt making the score 7-6. Later in the second quarter, Red Bud halfback Chase Lucht found the endzone, scoring on a 3-yard dive. Brockmeyer’s PAT made it 14-6 at the half. The Musketeers held Murphysboro scoreless during the third quarter and much of the fourth until the Devils reached the end zone late in the game to make it 14-12. Murphysboro went for the two-point conversion to tie the game but the Musketeer defense held strong, stopping the Devils and preserving the win. The win boosts the Musketeers’ record to 4-1 for the year. The team travels to Wesclin to battle the Warriors next week. Come out and support your team, kick-off is at 6:00.
