Lady Musketeers End 2nd to Last Week 1-2

On Tuesday, March 2, 2021, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers faced off against the Valmeyer Pirates at home for their Senior Night. This was the second time they played Valmeyer this year and they were hunting for the win. The Lady Musketeers started off strong in the first quarter with fifteen points. Hannah Sievers had three points as she started her point total with a three-pointer. Chloe Wild and Merideth Whelan each had six points; Wild’s points were all two-point field goals and Whelan made two, two-pointers and went two for two from the free-throw line. The Musketeer defense held the Pirates to seven points.

In the second quarter, the ladies kept up their defense and their offense. Six of their fourteen points were from making all the free throws they attempted in the quarter with Whelan making four and Sievers contributing two. Wild scored another four points in two-pointers, while the other four points were split between Addison Dilley and Sam Kolweier. The ladies’ defense picked up the pace more, allowing only four points to be added on the Pirate side of the scoreboard and the Lady Musketeers walked into the locker room at halftime with a comfortable eighteen-point lead.

Throughout the third quarter, the Musketeers never slowed down. Sievers had eleven of the sixteen points created from four, two-point field goals and a three-pointer. Kolweier added another two to her points and Olivia Carle scored a two-point basket to put some points of her own on the board. The final point was Whelan’s as she made another free throw, making her total an impressive seven for eight from the line. Valmeyer was able to squeeze in six points, but the Musketeer still entered the fourth ahead 45-17.

Carle scored most of her points in the fourth with six points from two-point baskets and another from a free throw. Sievers contributed another four points in two-point field goals and Wild added two points of her own. Valmeyer was outscored again as the Pirates put up five points against Red Bud’s thirteen. The seniors walked off their home court with a final score of 58-22.
