Superbowl LV
After a season that most were unsure would even take place, the Super Bowl is finally here. On Sunday, February 7th, the reigning Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. To say this game is special for both teams would be an incredible understatement. For the Chiefs, it’s a chance for them to defend their title, as well as an opportunity for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes to prove his doubters wrong and solidify himself as questionably the best in the league. After having his first career start just 3 seasons ago, Mahomes is on the brink of capturing his second ring, and most likely his second Super Bowl MVP award. As far as the Buccaneers are concerned, they are the first NFL team in the league’s history to play a Super Bowl in their home stadium. Tampa Bay began their postseason by defeating the Washington Football team, which gave the Bucs their first playoff victory since 2002. They would go on to defeat their division rival, the New Orleans Saints, in the divisional round, as well as the NFC North Champion Green Bay Packers to advance to clinch their Super Bowl berth. Respectively, after the Chief’sĀ first-round bye, they narrowly defeated the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills to return back to the title game. Another factor that makes this game so special is the fact that six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady is faced with the challenge of winning a Super Bowl with the Bucs in his first season since leaving Bill Belichick and the Patriots dynasty. Even more impressive? He is the oldest Quarterback, in the NFL, sitting at 43 years young. Although the Chiefs are -3 point favorites to win the game, this game is going to be an absolute shootout with the Over/Under set at 57 points. Will NFL legend Tom Brady defeat the young star Mahomes to win his 7th championship? Or will Mahomes solidify his position as the new sheriff in town? Tune in to CBS at 5:30 central on February 7th to find out.
