RBHS Baseball Plays in the Regional Championship
The playoffs started for the Musketeers on Thursday as the team faced off against the Benton Rangers. The Rangers were the higher seed and played as the home team in this match up. Cole Steibel took the mound for the Musketeers and was dominant. Steibel threw six innings and giving up two hits while striking out ten and walking five. Red Bud jumped ahead early by scoring two runs in the first inning as Steibel began to retire batters on defense. The game turned into a pitchers duel leading into the sixth inning when Steibel would work out of a bases loaded situation to end the inning after the Rangers managed to score one run. With a 2-1 lead, Red Bud looked to add to their lead in the seventh. Parker Van Dorn plated two runs with a  double to take a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the inning. Caleb Langrehr came to the mound to record the last three outs. After a pop-up and a ground ball to shortstop, a strikeout sent the Musketeers to the regional championship game with a score of 4-1.
The championship game took place on Saturday against Nashville. Red Bud played as the visiting teams again for this match up and proceeded to score three runs in the top of the first inning. Parker Van Dorn hit a two run double to plate two of the three runs. Tyler Koester held the Hornets scoreless in the first inning. After the Musketeers failed to add to the lead in the top of the second, Nashville plated four runs of their own. Alex Kueker came in to finish the inning and stayed in for the third. After running into a jam in the fourth inning, Caleb Langrehr came in relief of Kueker. With bases loaded and one out the team was able to get out of the inning while surrendering only one run. Red Bud was down 5-3 in the sixth inning before being able to tie the game. Parker Van Dorn then hit a three run home run to take an 8-5 lead into the seventh inning. Max Simpson then went to the mound looking to finish the game. After Nashville was able to bring the score to 8-7, a two run double earned the Hornets the win and ended the Musketeers’ season with a score of 9-8.
Red Bud ended the season with an overall record of 15-18 and a conference record of 8-7.
