Musketeers Fall To Wildcats

Red Bud dropped to 2-2 on the season with a 21-0 loss to a tough Salem team last Friday night at home.

The game had an ominous beginning as the Musketeers took the opening kickoff and began on their own side of the field before turning the ball over on a running play. The Wildcats drove to the Red Bud three yard line, but the Musketeer defense made a stand. Salem set up on a fourth-and-goal and punched it in for the touchdown. The PAT made it 7-0.

The Salem defense was able to contain the high powered Musketeer running game that has been the mainstay for Red Bud this season holding the Boys to 112 yards rushing on the night. In the air, quarterback Jack Drennan threw for over 100 yards with Andrew Luthy leading all receivers with seven catches for 42 yards.

The Wildcats put another score on the board in the third quarter to take a 14-0 lead and iced the game late in the fourth with a final score to make the final score 21-0. It was the first time the Musketeers have been shutout this year. Gavin Roche- Voss led the defense with eight tackles; Gage Baldwin had six tackles, three assists, and an interception on the night.

The team travels to Freeburg this week to take on the Midgets. Freeburg is 3-1 after losing to Mater Dei last week, but are 2-0 in conference play. The Boys need to bring their “A Game” this week to earn the win against the always tough Midgets. Make the short trip north to see some great football, kick off is at 7 p.m.
