Softball Team Ends Last Full Week of School 2-2
On Tuesday, May 8, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers competed against Metro-East Lutheran.
The Lady Musketeers opened up scoring in the first inning. Mackenzie Schweizer started the
inning off with a line drive single to left field. Sophia Koesterer drove in Schweizer on a fly ball
double to put Red Bud on the board. The Musketeers added six runs to their score in the third
inning. Back to back singles came from MaKenzie Harbaugh and Laura Juelfs. Both scored on
Schweizer’s line drive single to center field. Nicole Allen’s single hit to right field scored another
run for the Musketeers. Callie Todaro followed with a line drive triple, driving in one run. Red
Bud scored an additional run on a steal home. Harbaugh kept the rally going and hit a line drive
single to center field, adding another run to the board. In the bottom of the third, Metro-East
Lutheran scored one run. However, Red Bud responded with one run in the fourth and fifth
innings as well. In the bottom of the fifth, Metro-East Lutheran added to their score by putting
three runs on the board. The Musketeers did not quit and continued to rally their bats in the sixth
inning, scoring seven runs. Red Bud held onto their lead in the bottom half of the inning and
defeated Metro-East Lutheran in six innings with a final score of 16-4.

On Wednesday, May 9, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers traveled to Valmeyer to take on the Lady
Pirates. The Lady Musketeers snatched the lead late in the game against the Lady Pirates. Red
Bud got on the board in the second inning. Allen tripled on a fly ball to right field and scored on
Cowell’s line drive single. In the bottom half of the inning, Valmeyer tied the game up at one.
The Lady Pirates took the lead in the third inning by driving in one run. The Lady Musketeers did
not give up and continued to fight. In the fifth inning, the Musketeers rallied their bats, driving in
eleven runs. Schweizer singled on a line drive to left field, scoring one run. Koesterer followed
with a fly ball single hit to right field, driving in another two runs.Todaro and Cowell had
back-to-back singles, each scoring one run for the Musketeers. Shields reached base on a hard
ground ball, also scoring one run. Schweizer came in clutch again in the fifth, driving in two runs
on a hard ground ball hit to center field. Allen followed by reaching base on a hard ground ball,
receiving two RBI’s. Todaro’s line drive single to right field added another run to Red Bud’s
score. Valmeyer continued to fight in the bottom of the fifth and responded with three runs
sending the game into six innings. In the sixth inning, the Musketeers rallied their bats once
again and scored five runs. The Red Bud Lady Musketeers shut Valmeyer down in the bottom
half of the inning and claimed the victory with a final score of 17-5.

Koesterer pitched the game allowing twelve hits and no walks with six strikeouts.
On Thursday, May 10, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers hosted the New Athens Lady Jackets for
Senior Night. The Lady Musketeers struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time
defensively containing New Athens. The Lady Jackets got things started in the first inning,
scoring two runs on a fly ball triple to right field. They also added an additional run to their score
in the first inning. The Musketeers responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Harbaugh got things started with a single hit to center field. Juelfs followed with a single hit to
left field. During Koesterer’s at bat, Harbaugh stole home, putting Red Bud on the board. Juelfs
scored on Koesterer’s RBI groundout. In the third inning, the Lady Jackets drove in three runs to
increase their score.The Lady Musketeers managed to put a run on the board in the bottom of
the third. Todaro singled on a hard ground ball to right field, scoring one run. New Athens
continued to rally their bats in the fifth inning, increasing their lead by four runs. However, the
Musketeers did not put their heads down and continued to fight. In the sixth inning, Red Bud
drove in two runs. The Lady Jackets responded with a single run in the top of the seventh and
held the Lady Musketeers in the bottom half of the inning. Red Bud took the loss against New
Athens with a final score of 5-11.

Koesterer pitched 4.2 innings allowing thirteen hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
Schweizer pitched 2.1 innings allowing two hits and two walks with one strikeout.
On Friday, May 11, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers traveled to Trico to take on the Lady
Pioneers. The Lady Musketeers fell behind early and couldn’t come back. Trico got things
started in the first inning, scoring one run. In the third inning, the Lady Pioneers added another
run to the scoreboard. The Pioneers continued to rally their bats and drive in runs. In the fourth
inning, they increased their lead by another four runs. Red Bud got things started in the sixth
inning, putting their first run of the game on the scoreboard. Stapleton doubled on a fly ball to
center field and scored on Harbaugh’s hard ground ball single to right field. Trico responded by
scoring three runs in the bottom half of the inning. In the seventh inning, the Lady Musketeers
rallied their bats and drove in three runs. Shields started the inning off with a hard ground ball
single hit to left field. Brown then hit a hard ground ball to the third baseman and reached base.
Shields managed to score on an error made by the Lady Pioneers. Brown scored on Stapleton’s
RBI groundout. Harbaugh kept the rally going by singling on a hard ground ball to the pitcher.
Juelfs followed with a hard ground ball single to left field. Harbaugh scored on an error made by
the Lady Pioneers, putting one run on the board. The Lady Musketeers were unable to keep the
rally going in the seventh and fell to the Lady Pioneers with a final score of 4-9.
