Softball Team Still Going Strong
On Tuesday, May 1, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers took on the Lebanon Lady Greyhounds in a
doubleheader. The Lady Musketeers got on board in the first inning when Mackenzie Schweizer
homered, scoring three runs. The Lady Greyhounds responded with two runs in the bottom half
of the inning. Red Bud continued to rally their bats and scored another three runs in both the
second and third innings. In the top of the fifth inning, Lebanon added three runs to their score.
However, the Musketeers responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. MaKenzie
Harbaugh and Laura Juelfs both scored on Sophia Koesterer’s hard ground ball single to left
field. Red Bud drove in another four runs and increased their lead in the bottom of the sixth
inning. Nicole Allen started the inning off with a line drive single to center field. Callie Todaro
followed with a walk. Hope Guebert’s hard ground ball single scored one run. Todaro scored on
Darrian Stapleton’s fly ball hit to right field. Harbaugh then doubled, driving in another two runs
for the Musketeers. In the seventh inning, the Lady Greyhounds put six runs on the board, but it
was not enough. Red Bud claimed the conference win with a final score of 15-10.
Harbaugh 4/4; Koesterer 3/3; Schweizer 2/4; Allen and Guebert 1/2; Stapleton 1/3; Madison
Shields 1/4; Todaro contributed with two walks and Allen, Juelfs, and Koesterer all contributed
with one walk each.
Koesterer pitched 5.0 innings allowing five hits and five walks with seven strikeouts.
Emma Siegfried pitched 1.2 innings allowing three hits and two walks with one strikeout.
Schweizer pitched 0.1 innings allowing no hits and one walk.
In the second game of the doubleheader against Lebanon, Red Bud immediately got things
moving in the first inning. Harbaugh and Juelfs both walked at the start of the game. Harbaugh
scored on a wild pitch during Juelfs’ at bat and Juelfs scored on Koesterer’s RBI groundout.
Lebanon got on the board in the second inning by scoring one run. The Musketeers increased
their lead in the top of the third by two runs. The Greyhounds responded with three runs in the
bottom half of the inning to tie the game up at four. In the fourth inning, Red Bud stole the lead
once again. Alyssa Cowell was walked to start the inning off. Stapleton’s hard ground ball single
to third base scored one run for the Musketeers. The Lady Musketeers continued to rally their
bats and drive in more runs the remainder of the game. Red Bud added two runs to their score
in the fifth inning. Allen’s line drive triple and Cowell’s fly ball single each drove in a run for the
Musketeers. In the sixth inning, the Musketeers increased their lead by another four runs. Red
Bud added a single run to their score in the seventh. Although Lebanon scored one run in the
bottom half of the inning, Red Bud held onto their lead and captured their second conference
win of the day with a final score of 12-5.
Harbaugh, Juelfs, and Stapleton 2/3; Allen and Schweizer 2/4; Cowell 1/2; Koesterer 1/4;
Harbaugh and Juelfs contributed with two walks each, and Cowell and Stapleton contributed
with one walk each.
Schweizer pitched the game allowing nine hits and no walks with seven strikeouts.
On Wednesday, May 2, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers hosted the DuQuoin Lady Indians. The
Lady Musketeers watched the game slip away early and could not recover. The Musketeers
struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing DuQuoin. The
Lady Indians got things immediately started in the first inning by scoring two runs. The Lady
Musketeers responded with one run in the bottom half of the inning. Harbaugh reached base on
a hard ground ball to the second baseman and scored on Schweizer’s line drive double to
center field. DuQuoin increased their lead by three runs in the second inning. In the bottom of
the second, Cowell’s fly ball homerun to left field added one run to Red Bud’s score. The Lady
Indians put another two runs on the board in the fourth. Duquoin continued to rally their bats the
remainder of the game. They drove in six runs in the sixth inning to put the Musketeers down
under. Red Bud took the loss against DuQuoin with a final score of 13-2.
Schweizer 1/1; Cowell and Stapleton 1/2; Juelfs and Schweizer contributed with one walk each.
Schweizer pitched 3.2 innings allowing ten hits and one walk with six strikeouts.
Siegfried pitched 2.1 innings allowing six hits and three walks.
On Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers were scheduled to
participate in the Marissa Tournament, but it was cancelled due to weather conditions.
Red Bud is scheduled to travel to Metro East Lutheran on Tuesday, May 8; travel to Valmeyer
on Wednesday, May 9; host New Athens on Thursday, May 10; and travel to Trico on Friday,
May 11.
