Lady Musketeers Score Another Conference Victory
On Wednesday, January 22, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers hosted the Steeleville Lady
Warriors. The Musketeers were determined to get revenge after their previous matchup with the
Warriors. Knowing it would not be easy, Red Bud had to play with great composure and
confidence.
In the first quarter, Red Bud was lagging and none of their shots were falling. This made
it hard for the Musketeers to keep up with the Warriors. However, Sophie Richards managed to
post up twice and knock in two, two-point shots. Red Bud was falling 4-13 at the end of the
quarter.
The Lady Musketeers came out much stronger in the second quarter. Shots started to
fall for them. Sophia Koesterer sank one three pointer after the other. She knocked in three,
three-point shots to put nine points on the scoreboard. Richards also fought hard at the post and
made three, two-point shots. She also was fouled twice and went two for three from the free
throw line. Going into halftime, the score was tied at 21-21.
In the third quarter, Red Bud took the lead by outscoring Steeleville eighteen to fourteen.
Koesterer was hot from the three-point line again and made another three shots to add nine
points to the Musketeer’s score. Laura Juelfs made a strong move at the post and put in a
two-point shot. Richards also posted up strong and made a shot. She was fouled as well and
went one for two from the free throw line. Hope Guebert also contributed with two points. This
put the score at 39-35.
The Musketeers held the Warriors in the fourth quarter by playing strong defense. They
also managed to put in a few shots to secure their lead. Koesterer drove to the basket and
made a shot. She was also fouled twice and went two for three from the free throw line.
MaKenzie Harbaugh drove to the basket on a fastbreak and made a two-pointer as well.
Richards posted up and made a two-point shot. She was also fouled and made one of two free
throws. Red Bud gained the conference victory with a final score of 48-40.
Red Bud is scheduled to travel to New Athens on Monday, January 29; and host Marissa
for Senior Night on Thursday, February 1.
