Lady Musketeers Add 2 More Conference Wins
On Monday, January 8, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers hosted the Lebanon Lady
Greyhounds. Going into this game, the Musketeers knew they had nothing to lose. Red Bud’s
goal was to play their game and play with passion and intensity.
In the first quarter, Red Bud came out on fire and ready to give Lebanon a game.
MaKenzie Harbaugh started the game off by banking a two-point shot from the high post.
Sophia Koesterer then followed up by sinking a three-pointer to put the Musketeers in the lead.
Koesterer and Harbaugh also both knocked in a two-point shot later in the quarter to add
another four points to Red Bud’s score. Sophie Richards battled at the post and put in two,
two-point shots as well. At the end of the quarter, Red Bud was down 13-17.
The Lady Musketeers fell apart in the second quarter, giving the Lady Greyhounds the
chance to extend their lead. Lebanon outscored Red Bud seventeen to four. Alyssa Cowell put
in a two-pointer. She also drove to the basket and was fouled on the shot. She went two for two
from the free throw line. Going into halftime, Red Bud was down 17-34.
In the third quarter, Lebanon went on a run and quickly took the game out of Red Bud’s
reach. The Lady Greyhounds managed to make just about every shot they put up. However, the
Musketeers still managed to put eight points on the board. Koesterer sank her second
three-pointer of the game. Cowell also sank a three-point shot and knocked in a two-pointer as
well. This put the score at 25-55.
The Musketeers did not put their heads down in the fourth quarter. They continued to
fight hard until the end. Red Bud was able to add eleven points to their score during this quarter.
Koesterer sank another three-pointer. She was also fouled on a shot after driving to the basket
and went one for two from the free throw line. Laura Juelfs also knocked in a three-point shot to
add three points to the board. Harbaugh and Richards also both contributed with two points.
Red Bud was defeated by Lebanon with a final score of 36-64.
On Wednesday, January 10, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers took on the Dupo Lady
Tigers at home. The Musketeers were hoping to gain a conference win. In order to do this, they
knew that they must continue to give it all they had both on defense and offense.
In the first quarter, Red Bud gained a quick lead by running the ball down the court
possession after possession. Koesterer sank two, three point shots to put six points on the
scoreboard. She also drove to the basket and put in a two-pointer. Richards posted up several
times and fought hard to put in three, two-point shots. The Musketeers also drew several fouls
during this quarter. Richards was fouled three times and went three for four from the free throw
line. Juelfs was also fouled and made one of two free throws. Harbaugh went two for two from
the free throw line as well. Red Bud was leading 20-4 at the end of the quarter.
The Lady Musketeers increased their lead in the second quarter by adding another
thirteen points to their score. Koesterer sank her third three-pointer of the night. She also drove
to the basket and made a shot. Richards made two, two-point shots from the post. Juelfs also
posted up and made a shot. Harbaugh and Juelfs both drew a foul and went one for two from
the free throw line. At halftime, Red Bud was ahead 33-12.
In the third quarter, Red Bud continued to make their shots, running Dupo down to the
ground. Juelfs and Guebert both got offensive rebounds and went right back up for the shot to
put four points on the board for the Musketeers. Guebert also was fouled on a shot and made
one of two free throws. Alyssa Heller made a shot from the post and was fouled on the shot.
She made her free throw as well. Richards was also fouled on a shot from the post and went
two for two from the free throw line. Cowell also contributed with three points and Claire
Grohmann with two. This put the score at 48-17.
The Musketeers did not slack off in the fourth quarter. They continued to increase their
score, giving them an excessive lead. Guebert and Sami Lucht both put in a two-point shot.
Richards also made a shot from the post. Meredith Whelan ran the ball down the court and
made three layups to put six points on the scoreboard. Grohmann also got a steel and made a
layup. She was fouled on the shot and went one for one from the free throw line. Red Bud
gained the conference win with a final score of 63-22.
On Saturday, January 13, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers traveled to Valmeyer to take on
the Lady Pirates. If the Musketeers played like they had earlier in the week, they knew they
would have another conference victory under their belt.
In the first quarter, Red Bud immediately pressured Valmeyer and ran the ball down the
court. Richards battled at the post and made two, two-point shots. She was also fouled several
times and went four for seven from the free throw line. After getting two steals, Harbaugh drove
to the basket twice and made two layups. She also was fouled multiple times and went four for
six from the free throw line. Koesterer was fouled as well and made one of two free throws.
Guebert also contributed with two points. At the end of the quarter, Red Bud was ahead 19-2.
The Lady Musketeers increased their score by adding another eleven points to the board
in the second quarter. Harbaugh made another two, two-point shots. Grohmann and Juelfs both
put a shot up after getting an offensive rebound, to add another four points to Red Bud’s score.
Richards was fouled on a shot and went two for two from the free throw line. Heller was fouled
as well and made one of two free throws. Going into halftime, Red Bud was leading 30-4.
In the third quarter, Red Bud put Valmeyer down under and kept them from scoring.
Richards continued to fight from the post and put in two shots. Guebert also made two,
two-point shots to add four points to the scoreboard. Cowell sank a three-pointer as well.
Grohmann and Heller also contributed with two points. This put the score at 45-4.
The Musketeers did not slow down in the fourth quarter. They continued to play good
defense and make their shots. Koesterer sank a three-point shot to add three points to Red
Bud’s score. Reese Foster also made a two-point shot. Cowell was fouled on a shot and made
one of two free throws. Megan Brookman and Whelan both were fouled on a shot as well and
went one for two from the free throw line. Red Bud captured their second conference win of the
week against Valmeyer with a final score of 53-9.
Red Bud is scheduled to host Wood River on Monday, January 15; and travel to Marissa
on Thursday, January 18.
