Musketeers Keep It Rolling Before The Break
On Wednesday, December 20, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers took on the New Athens
Lady Jackets at home. Hoping to gain their second conference win of the season, the
Musketeers knew they had to play both good defense and offense.
In the first quarter, Red Bud came out strong and outscored New Athens. MaKenzie
Harbaugh knocked in a two-point shot from the high post to start the game off. Sophia Koesterer
sank a three pointer and put in a two-point shot as well. She was also fouled on the shot and
went one for one from the free throw line. Sophie Richards also contributed with two points from
the post. At the end of the quarter, Red Bud was leading 10-5.
The Lady Musketeers played strong defense in the second quarter, but struggled to
knock in their shots. However, they still managed to put seven points on the board. Hope
Guebert and Harbaugh both made a two-pointer, putting four points on the board for Red Bud.
Alyssa Cowell and Laura Juelfs were both fouled on a shot, and both went one for one from the
free throw line. Koesterer was also fouled on a shot and made one of two free throws. Going
into halftime, Red Bud was ahead 17-13.
In the third quarter, Red Bud started knocking in shot after shot, giving them a more
comfortable lead. Koesterer came out on fire and sank three, three-pointers, adding nine points
to the Musketeer’s score. Richards was also strong at the post and put in two, two-point shots.
Juelfs was fouled and went two for two from the free throw line as well. This put the score at
32-16.
The Musketeers increased their lead by another nine points in the fourth quarter.
Koesterer knocked in another two shots, contributing with four points. Richards also went up
strong at the post and made a shot. Alyssa Heller was fouled twice and went two for four from
the free throw line. Harbaugh was also fouled on a shot after getting an offensive rebound and
made one of two free throws. Red Bud captured another conference victory against New Athens
with a final score of 41-22.
Red Bud is scheduled to play in their first game of the Lebanon Christmas Tournament
on Tuesday, December 26 against DuQuoin.
