Basketball 2017 Preview

Another winter is almost upon us at RBHS, which means another season of winter sports that should thrill Red Bud fans.  RBHS men’s basketball tips off November 27th at the Trico Thanksgiving Tournament as Red Bud’s new men’s coach, Coach Cruzer hopes for a winning start to the season.  Senior Blake “B-Train” Cowell describes his final year on the basketball team as, “State or bust.”  With other seniors consisting of Drew Kueker, Caleb Reichman, Griffin Ziebold, Alex Birchler, Shaye Carter, and Cory Fithian, Red Bud may have a legitimate shot at State this year.  They also have many skilled players coming off the bench such as junior, Alex Sievers, and sophomore, Jayden Birkner.  As always, our cheerleaders will be there to cheer them on the whole way.

The women’s varsity team began their season November 13th at the Sparta Tournament with a huge win over Sparta 51-19.  They continued on Tuesday night with a win over Steeleville 42-22.  They take on Trico Wednesday night @ 5:30, Sesser-Valier Friday night @ 8:30, and Chester Saturday @ 5:30.  Senior girls Mackenzie Schweizer, Sophia Koester, Sophie Richards, Laura Juelfs, and Mackenzie Harbaugh take the court for their final year at RBHS as they work towards their at the common goal of getting to State. We will see how both teams adjust to playing their first season in a new conference.  Be ready Musketeer fans, this winter is going to be a good one.
