XC Runners Advance To Sectionals

This past weekend, the Cross Country team participated in Regionals at John A. Logan College. Every person on the team came off of the starting line with guns blazing and crossed the finish line in great condition.

Both teams did extremely well in the meet. The top seven teams advance to Sectionals where they will compete for a spot at State. The boys team finished 4th in the meet and the girls team finished 8th. A team’s score is determined by the places of their runners. Each score gives the team that amount of points and the lowest score determines the winner. The boys team qualified for Sectionals with a score of 108. The girls finished 8th with 210 points. The girls were a mere 24 points behind 7th and a spot at Sectionals. The loss stung the girls, but they look forward to next year and to closing the small gap between them and the 7th place team.

Calyn Hartmann, however, had an amazing performance and secured her spot at Sectionals. She finished 13th overall with a time of 21 minutes and 30 seconds. After the teams advance, five individual runners are chosen to go to Sectionals on their own. Calyn was 3rd after the teams advanced and is going to Sectionals as an individual.

The Sectional Meet will be held this Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Benton, Illinois.  Good luck runners.
