Hardware Season

Hardware+Season

Red Bud Lady Musketeers attacked their game against the Trico Lady Pioneers and won their first award in almost ten years. The last time they picked up some hardware was when their Assistant Coach, Tiffany Henry, was a senior at Red Bud. The Lady Musketeers came out strong in the first quarter. They scored ten points and held Trico to a single point. Chloe Wild had four of the ten points from layups. Sam Kolweier and Lyla Hess both had two points from two-point field goals. The final two points were contributed by Madison Falkenhain when she went two for two from the free-throw line. Headed back to the benches, the score was 10 to 1 with the Musketeers having a fairly strong lead.

Throughout the second quarter, Red Bud held the Pioneers to a mere five points, all of which were from free throws. They were only able to add eight points to their side of the scoreboard though. Hannah Sievers earned four of those eight points from a jumper and a layup. Falkenhain and Hess both added two more of their own points. At the end of the half, Red Bud was up in this low-scoring game of 18 to 6.

The ladies picked up the speed when it came to the third quarter. Addi Dilley was the main scorer with eleven of the nineteen points added to the score. She sank three three-pointers and a two-pointer. The other eight points were split evenly as Kolweier and Hess each took four more points. The defense stayed aggressive and only allowed another five, three from free throws and two from their first made basket of the game. Red Bud walked into the fourth with a considerable lead of twenty-six in a 37 to 11 game.

The fourth quarter was the best quarter played by Trico. They were able to put up six points and held Red Bud to four. Those four were another two-pointer by Dilley and a fast-break layup made by Josie Meyer. Over the course of the game, Red Bud held Trico to three normal baskets and fouled enough that the Pioneers made the rest of their points in free throws. It was a strong win for Red Bud to end the tournament with a final score of 41 to 17. Red Bud walked out of the Sparta Invitational with a Third Place plaque and two players, Addi Dilley and Hannah Sievers, earning a spot on the All-tournament team.
