Lady Musketeers Go 2-1 in a Tough Week of Games

On January 13, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers played Roxanna at home. It was a tight game from the beginning. In the first quarter, the Lady Musketeers scored ten points. Claire Grohmann had six of those points from two-pointers. The other four were from two-point shots made by Sami Lucht and Hannah Sievers. Roxanna was able to score eight points throughout that quarter, end the quarter with Red Bud in the lead. 

The tables turned slightly in the second quarter. Red Bud added nine points to their score. Grohmann made another two-pointer. Amber Stengel had four points from a three-pointer and making one of her two free throws. The final three were from Olivia Carle shooting a two-point shot and going one for two in free throws. The Shells scored thirteen point, which made the score nineteen to twenty-one with Roxanna on top going into halftime. 

During the third quarter, the ladies scored another eight points. Sievers and Grohmann each had three points from a two-point shot and a free throw each. The other two were from a two-pointer made by Carle. They held Roxanna to seven points. The score going into the final quarter was twenty-seven to twenty-eight with Roxanna in the lead.

Throughout the fourth quarter, Red Bud put up ten points. Sievers and Grohmann each had another two-pointer. Carle also had two, points but made them from free throws.  Meredith Whelan made one of her free throws and Lucht made three free throws. Roxanna only scored six points, which meant Red Bud finished on top with a score of thirty-seven to thirty-four. 


Two days later, Red Bud had to face off against Dupo in another fight to the end. Red Bud came out to a rough start with seven points. Meredith Whelan and Amber Stengel each made a three-pointer and the other point was made in a free throw by Claire Grohmann. Dupo scored thirteen points, ending the first quarter with Dupo in the lead. 

In the second quarter, Red Bud put up fourteen points. Chloe Wild and Stengel each scored a two-pointer.  Sami Lucht had three points from a two-point shot and a free throw. Olivia Carle made a three-pointer and Grohmann had four points from a couple of two-pointers. The ladies also held the Tigers to five points. Going into halftime, the score was twenty-one to eighteen with Red Bud on top. 

During the third quarter, the Lady Musketeers scored five points. Whelan hit another three-point shot and Grohmann made both of her free-throw attempts. Dupo added nine points to their score to put them up by one going into the final quarter. 

Throughout the fourth quarter, both teams fought hard and Red Bud added twelve points. Lucht had four points from two-pointers. Stengel and Carle each got their points from free throws. Stengel had two and Carle had three. Grohmann had three points with a two-point shot and a free throw. However, Dupo was able to add another fourteen points, which put them up by three at the end.  The Lady Musketeers faced a second loss to the Dupo Tigers.


On January 18, Red Bud traveled to Valmeyer to play. They started out strong with fourteen points. The points were very spread out throughout the team. Claire Grohmann, Kassidy Ellner, and Meredith Whelan all made one two-pointer. Olivia Carle and Sami Lucht also had two points apiece. The final four points were made by Chloe Wild with a two-point shot and two free throws. The Lady Musketeers held the Pirates to four points, ending the quarter 14-4.

Scoring slowed down slightly in the second quarter with the Lady Musketeers scoring only seven points. Wild and Megan Stellhorn each had one point from a free throw. Jessica Bievenue made a two-pointer and Reese Foster hit a three. Valmeyer added six points to their score, so the score was twenty-one to ten with Red Bud in the lead going into halftime. 

During the third quarter, the Musketeers added fifteen points. Hannah Sievers and Ellner each had four points created from two-pointers. Wild and Grohmann each scored another two-point shot. The other three points were from a three-pointer hit by Amber Stengel. The Pirates scored only seven points throughout the quarter. 

In the final quarter, Red Bud only put up six points. Samantha Kolweier had four of these from two-point shots. Stellhorn had the other two with a two-pointer. Valmeyer scored eight points. In the end, Red Bud won the game forty-two to twenty-five.
