The Musketeers took on the Steeleville Warriors at home this past Tuesday. The Musketeers had not beaten the Warriors for the past several matchups but were hoping to get a huge win and remain undefeated at home.

The Musketeers struggled out of the gate. The Warriors put a lot of pressure on the Musketeer’s ball handlers and forced a few turnovers. They also ran the floor in transition and the Musketeers had problems getting them stopped with their extreme quickness. They took a 13-3 lead at one point in the first quarter, and it looked like the game would get away from the Musketeers. Luckily, they persevered and fought back into the game after Alex Kueker put in 7 points in the quarter. The Musketeers trailed 17-9 heading into the second.

The Musketeers struggled offensively in the second quarter. Kueker put in 2 more 2 point shots, and Carter Wiegard put in a layup. The Warriors expanded the lead by continuing to run the floor and put pressure on the Musketeers. The score was 28-15 going into the break.

The Musketeers were still within striking distance, but needed to step up their offense. Unfortunately, they could not as they only scored another 6 in the quarter. The Warriors opened up the lead even more as the score was 43-21 heading into the fourth.

The Musketeers continued to fight and did not give up. They won the quarter 13-7. Wyatt Cowell put in 4 points and Austin Grohmann put in a 2-pointer. Obviously though, it would not be enough, as the Musketeers lost 50-34.

The Musketeers contest scheduled for Friday was canceled due to the potential ice in the forecast and since there was no school. The Musketeers will travel to Sparta this week for the Mid-Winter Classic. On Tuesday, they will play Sparta at 8:30. On Thursday, they will play Trico at 5:30. On Friday, they will play Freeburg at 5:30. And on Saturday, they will play a team from the other pool. The time is TBD.

As the Musketeers reach the midway point of the season, they have shown much improvement from last year’s abysmal season. Carter Wiegard leads the team in scoring averaging 14 points. Alex Kueker leads the team in rebounding averaging 4. Jayden Birkner leads the team in assists averaging 3. The Musketeers hope to continue to improve, as they have a 6-10 record.
