Red Bud Has a Sweet Beginning at the Candy Cane Tournament

Last week, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers played in the Gibault Candy Cane Tournament. In the first game, on December 18, Red Bud faced off against Madison. During the first quarter, the ladies scored thirteen points. Amber Stengel and Hannah Sievers each made a two-point shot. Sami Lucht scored four points of her own with a couple of two-pointers. Jessica Bievenue and Chloe Wild had one point a piece from free throws and Reese Foster made a three-pointer. Madison put ten points on the scoreboard to make Red Bud lead by three.


Red Bud had an even better second quarter. Of the ladies nineteen points, Lucht had eight, consisting of a few two-pointers and two made free throws. Grohmann, Sievers, Bievenue, and Madison Pensoneau each had two points from free throws or two-point shots. Wild then added three points to the score with a free throw and a two-pointer. Madison was only able to add seven points to their score, which made the score thirty-one (Red Bud) to seventeen going into halftime.


The third quarter was quite similar score wise. Red Bud scored another nineteen points. This time Grohmann led the team with six points created from two-pointers. Stengel and Maegan Brookman each hit a three-pointer. Sievers put up five points with a couple of two-pointers and a free throw. Bievenue made both of her free throws. The Lady Musketeers held Madison to four points that quarter. The score was fifty to twenty-one going into the final quarter.


During the fourth quarter, Red Bud only scored six points with Bievenue, Pensoneau, and Megan Stellhorn all scoring a two-point shot. Madison was able to add five points to the scoreboard at this point. The final score was fifty-six to twenty-five with the Musketeers on top.
