Lady Musketeers Improve Their Record

On Wednesday, December 6, Red Bud traveled to Waterloo Gibault to face the Lady
Hawks. The Lady Musketeers were hoping to gain their confidence back after two previous
tough losses against Lebanon and Freeburg.
In the first quarter, Red Bud came out a little slow, but still managed to outscore the
Hawks by one point. Sophie Richards fought hard at the post and put in three shots, to add six
points to Red Bud’s score. Hope Guebert made a two-point shot from the high post. MaKenzie
Harbaugh also drove to the basket and made a layup. Alyssa Cowell also was fouled on a shot
and went one for two from the free throw line. At the end of the quarter, Red Bud was leading
11-10.
The Lady Musketeers came out much stronger in the second quarter and added another
thirteen points to their score. Sophia Koesterer was knocking in shots left and right. She sank
two, three-pointers and drove to the basket to put in another shot. She was also fouled on a
shot and made both free throws. Harbaugh also was fouled on a shot and went one for two from
the free throw line. Laura Juelfs put in a shot from the post after getting an offensive rebound as
well. Going into halftime, Red Bud was ahead 24-14.
In the third quarter, Red Bud increased their score, which gave them a more comfortable
lead. Richards was strong at the post, making one two-pointer and going two for two from the
free throw line after being fouled. Koesterer also knocked in a two-pointer and was fouled on the
shot. She added another point to the board after making her free throw. Cowell and Harbaugh
both contributed with two points as well. This put the score at 35-22.
The Musketeers extended their lead in the fourth quarter. Guebert sank a three-pointer.
Cowell drove to the basket and made a layup. Harbaugh cut to the basket and made a two-point
shot from the post. Koesterer was also fouled multiple times and went two for four from the free
throw line. Red Bud claimed the victory with a final score of 44-29.
On Saturday, December 9, Red Bud traveled to Dupo to compete against the Lady
Tigers. The Lady Musketeers knew that they needed to play at their own level, with composure,
the entire game.
In the first quarter, Red Bud came out ready to run the ball and score. Koesterer sank a
three-point shot and also knocked in a two-pointer as well. She also went to the free throw line
and made both shots after a technical foul was called on the opposing team. Guebert made a
two-pointer after getting an offensive rebound. Harbaugh made a layup on a fastbreak to the
basket. Richards also fought hard from the post and made a shot. She was also fouled several
times and went two for five from the free throw line. Alyssa Heller was fouled on a shot as well
and made one of two free throws. Red Bud was leading 16-7 at the end of the quarter.
The Lady Musketeers extended their lead in the second quarter by adding another
eighteen points to their score. Cowell was a huge contributor, making a three-pointer and two,
two-point shots as well. Koesterer also sank a three-pointer. Richards put in two, two-pointers
from the post as well. Harbaugh and Juelfs also contributed with two points each. At halftime,
Red Bud was ahead 34-13.
In the third quarter, Red Bud played good defense and outscored the Lady Tigers twelve
to two. As done in the previous quarter, Cowell added another seven points to Red Bud’s score.
Koesterer also contributed with four points, making two, two-pointers. Guebert was also fouled
and went one for two from the free throw line. This put the score at 46-15.

The Musketeers continued to increase their lead in the fourth quarter. Richards and
Heller both went up strong and made a shot from the post. Cowell and Amber Stengel both
made a hard cut to the basket to knock in a two-point shot. Sami Lucht made a two-pointer from
the high post as well. Claire Grohmann also drove to the basket and made a layup after getting
a steal. Red Bud gained their second victory of the week with a final score of 58-20.
Red Bud is scheduled to play Tuesday, December 12, against Waterloo in their first
game of the Waterloo Gibault Candy Cane Tournament.
