NHS Service Project
Every school year, the members of the RBHS National Honor Society are required to choose a focus for their charity/community service project and this year’s focus was on the homeless. On Thursday, May 17, Maria Mueller, Alex Sievers, Alyssa Heller, and Emma Siegfried completed their project. For their project, the four of them decided to raise money and collect food to donate to the St. Patrick Center. They collected money and items at their local churches, and then went shopping for needed items. The kids then piled into the car amid groceries and personal hygiene items to head to St. Louis. They stopped at Sam’s Club first and spent about half of the money they had raised buying diapers, personal hygiene items, and bottled water. The rest of the money they raised was given to the center to use in creating housing kits for clients to use when they set up their own residences. The students arrived at the center, delivered the items, and were then taken inside to see and tour most of the facility. They visited areas like the food pantry; the welcome center, where they start the rehabilitation process; and the cafeteria/lounge area, where those in need can get a hot meal and take a needed rest. After the tour, the group left with a new appreciation for what they have and how much an organization like the St. Patrick Center helps those in need.
