Softball Home Opener

On Tuesday, March 13, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers competed against the Valmeyer Lady
Pirates in their first game of the season, as well as their home opener. The Musketeers opened
up scoring in the first inning. MaKenzie Harbaugh and Laura Juelfs scored on Sophia
Koesterer’s hard ground ball single to left field. Callie Todaro singled on a fly ball to the
shortstop. Nicole Allen also singled, scoring another two runs for the Musketeers. In the bottom
of the second inning, Red Bud collected another two runs to increase their lead by six runs.
Valmeyer put their first run on the board in the fourth inning, but Red Bud did not let that stop
them. The Musketeers added another run to their score in the bottom of the fourth inning when
Juelfs scored on Darrian Stapleton’s hard hit ground ball. The Lady Pirates continued to fight in
the fifth inning and collected multiple hits to increase their score by three runs. In the bottom of
the fifth inning, Red Bud scored another two runs. Harbaugh and Juelfs scored on Koesterer’s
base hit. Valmeyer did not back down and continued to fight in the seventh inning. The Lady
Pirates quickly put two runs on the board, but the Musketeers bared down and stopped them
from bringing any more runs across the plate. The Red Bud Lady Musketeers claimed their first
win of the season as well as their first conference win against Valmeyer with a final score of 9-6.
Juelfs 2/2; Koesterer 2/3; Harbaugh 2/4; Nicole Allen, Bailey Montroy, Madison Shields, and
Todaro 1/3; Tory Huggins 1/4; Juelfs contributed with two walks and Allen, Koesterer, and
Todaro with one.
Koesterer pitched the game allowing eleven hits and one walk with six strikeouts.
On Thursday, March 15, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers traveled to Marissa to take on the Lady
Meteors. The Musketeers were hoping to claim their second conference win of the season. In
the first inning, Marissa got their offense started and scored one run to take the lead. Red Bud
had a two out rally in the top of the third inning when Harbaugh tripled on a line drive to left field.
Juelfs followed up with a fly ball triple to left field, scoring one run and tying the game up. The
game was tied up until the top of the seventh inning when the Musketeers began to rattle their
bats. Back to back singles from Hope Guebert and Stapleton gave the Musketeers hope. Alyssa
Cowell reached base on an error and Stapleton scored to put Red Bud in the lead. Harbaugh
also reached base on an error, advancing runners into scoring position. Guebert and Cowell
both scored on Juelf’s line drive single to left field. Harbaugh scored on Koesterer’s ground out
to put the Musketeer’s up by four runs. Red Bud held Marissa in the bottom half of the inning
and captured the victory with a final score of 5-1.

walk.
Koesterer pitched the game allowing six hits and no walks with five strikeouts.
On Friday, March 16, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers competed against the Elverado Lady
Falcons. The Musketeers watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover. Red Bud
struggled to puts runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Elverado,

giving up ten runs. Elverado took the lead on a double in the first inning. The Lady Falcons
continued to rally their bats in the second inning. They added another six runs to their score to
increase their lead. In the bottom of the third inning, Elverado drove in another two runs. Red
Bud was defeated by Elverado with a final score of 10-0.

Harbaugh pitched 2.1 innings allowing eleven hits and two walks with one strikeout. Emma
Siegfried pitched 1.2 innings allowing two hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
On Saturday, March 17, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers competed in the Pinckneyville
Tournament. The Musketeers took on the Mater Dei Lady Knights in their first game of the day.
The Musketeers watched the game slip away early as they struggled to put runs on the board.
Mater Dei took the lead immediately in the first inning. They added another three runs to their
score in the second inning. In the third inning, Red Bud rallied their bats and put two runs on the
board. Huggins singled on a hard ground ball and advanced to third base on Cowell’s bunt.
Harbaugh hit a fly ball to center field, scoring Huggins. Cowell scored on Juelfs’ sacrifice bunt.
However, Mater Dei did not let down. They continued to hit the ball and bring more runs across
the plate. The Lady Knights scored another three runs in both the third and fourth innings. The
Musketeers were unable to recover in the fifth inning and took the loss with a final score of 10-2.

Koesterer pitched the game allowing nine hits and two walks with no strikeouts.
The Red Bud Lady Musketeers took on the Pinckneyville Lady Panthers in the second game of
the round-robin tournament. The Musketeers struggled defensively to contain the Panthers,
giving up sixteen runs. Pinckneyville saw the ball well and racked up sixteen hits in the game. In
fact, they smacked three homeruns on the day. While their offense was dominating, their
defense was equally as good. The Lady Panthers was sure-handed and did not commit a single
error. Red Bud was defeated by Pinckneyville with a final score of 16-0.

Harbaugh pitched 0.1 innings allowing six hits and three walks with no strikeouts. Siegfried
pitched 3.2 innings allowing ten hits and one walk with no strikeouts.
Red Bud is scheduled to host Granite City on Monday, March 19; host Lebanon on Tuesday,
March 20; host Belleville Althoff on Wednesday, March 21; travel to Steeleville on Thursday,
March 22; host Sparta on Friday, March 23; and host Alton-Marquette on Saturday, March 24.
