Lady Musketeers Finish Outstanding Season

On Wednesday, February 7, the Red Bud Lady Musketeers traveled to Pinckneyville to
take on the Lady Panthers in the semifinal game of the IHSA Regional Tournament. The
Musketeers knew it was going to take everything they had to compete with the Panthers. It was
going to be a quick pace game, and Red Bud could not let down at any moment.
In the first quarter, Red Bud came out ready to give Pinckneyville a run for their money.
The Musketeers had a great start and knocked in several shots right off the bat. Sophie
Richards fought hard at the post and made two strong post moves to add four points to the
Musketeer’s score. Laura Juelfs also battled at the post and made two, two-point shots as well.
MaKenzie Harbaugh cut to the basket and made a two-point shot. Hope Guebert and Alyssa
Heller contributed with two points as well. At the end of the quarter, Red Bud was leading 14-9.
The Lady Musketeers fell apart in the second quarter, giving the Lady Panthers an
opportunity to increase their score. Juelfs made another two-point shot at the post to add two
points to the scoreboard. Richards made another strong post move and was fouled on a shot.
She went two for two from the free throw line. Harbaugh drove to the basket and was fouled on
a shot as well. She went one for two from the free throw line. Going into halftime, Red Bud was
ahead 19-18.
In the third quarter, Red Bud was lagging and failed to knock in many shots. The
Panthers outscored the Musketeers thirteen to five, which gave them the lead. Juelfs continued
to make strong post moves and put in a two-point shot. Richards made a two-pointer from the
post as well. She was also fouled on a shot and went one for two from the free throw line. This
put the score at 24-31.
The Musketeers did not put their heads down in the fourth quarter. They continued to
fight hard and play good defense. Red Bud also added another seven points to their score.
Sophia Koesterer drove to the basket and made a two-point shot. Alyssa Cowell made a
two-pointer as well. Richards continued to battle at the post and was fouled several times. She
went three for five from the free throw line. The Red Bud Lady Musketeers were defeated by the
Pinckneyville Lady Panthers with a final score of 31-39. The Lady Musketeers ended their
outstanding season with a record of 21-8.
